AIMigos Toastmasers Club – December 2016
District 99 has chartered its first new club, the AIMigos! This club is a corporate club located in the offices of the Alberta Investment Managment Corporation, 10830 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton AB. The club chartered with 31 members after a demo meeting on October 20th, 2016 where over 50 people expressed interest.
The demo meeting happend the week of the innaugral District 99 Fall Conference being held in Sherwood Park, Alberta. The extra special thing about the meeting was that in attendance was Immediate Past International President, Jim Kokocki DTM. Other dignitaries included the District 99 Director, Lorraine Wheatley ACB ALS, District 99 Program Quality Director, Don Zurakowski DTM and Past International President, Neil Wilkinson DTM. District 99 Club Growth Director, Glenn Walker DTM was one of the Sponsors of the new club along with District Director, Lorraine Wheatley ACB, ALS.
The club began meetings the following week and completed the charter process within a few weeks. Joining the team as mentors were Marlene Petruch and Pierre-Michel Edmond from the Southern Lights club. The picture of the members was from a Christmas potluck celebration.
Having a club with 31 members that meets over the lunch hour has its challenges. But, the club is slowly working its way forward. The diverse backgrounds of the members makes for some very interesting stories. The club is looking forward to getting to know each other as they start the journey to becoming stronger leaders.
